Many years ago I heard the story "Country of the blind" by HG Wells.
This is a story of a secret community that was blind. They were blind so very long that they got to the point there being blind was just natural.
This thinking became so bad that when someone who could see stumbled by accident, into their community, they mocked him, simply because he thought he could see.
At one point, those from the blind community would convince, the one who could see, that HE
was blind.
Again, many years ago, I heard the story of "the emperor new clothes. This story is more well known. It tells of how the community was afraid to tell the king the truth.
These two stories are about blind people. One where the blindness became normal and one where the people turned a blind eye to the truth.
People are (spiritually) blind from birth.
As a Christian prays as they read thru the Bible, God begins to open their eyes. As He does, many things occur, least of which is, how clear the truth is. It becomes so obvious.
It's nothing like the Emergent preacher says nor is it like what the liberal atheist says.
It is not my intent, to open anyone's eyes. Only God can do that.
Since my first time reading it, I began wondering how I could have missed such a grand love for me, when it was staring right at me,the whole time.
My ONLY desire, as I blog is, too encourage anyone whose never read thru the entire Bible, to pray and ask God to help them as they commit to reading God's Word through.
What follows here are some random suggestions to consider.
- ask questions
That is ok to do. Many Christians don't know why they believe what they do. Hearing or reading it somewhere is ok just as long as you know where they got it from.
- slow things down
That's hard to do in our culture. But it's worth knowing how.
- research the church you attend. What's it's history,
This one mostly appeals to those who care about doctrine or theology. Most people don't. They just wanna find a place they "like"
- Pray
Obviously do this first , but especially after those first three. You'll need to. It's not an easy thing, when one learns how easily they can be "taken in" Much of what you believe is nowhere in Scripture. How can you know :
- read the Bible
Or listen to it in the the car. Start in Genesis. Don't be in a hurry and leave those Bible plans alone. Stuff like that makes it appear that reading your Bible is hard. All it really does is, it keeps us from admitting we're lazy.
- prepare yourself for aggravation
The aggravation is not if you miss a couple days or weeks. The aggravation comes, as your reading it. That's ok, it only means your reading it correctly and God is truly showing you.
Gods Word does not and will not, set well with our flesh nature.
Certain verses will, but those same verses , in context, often times bother us. That's why church's avoid keeping them in context.
I can't tell ya how many times I tossed the Bible away, only to retrieve it later and contine.
Another form of this aggravation will come by way of asking, why don't preachers read entire time books of Bible. To answer that you'd need to Google :
Where did evangelical ideas come from?
This answer will introduce you to many names like Darby, Scofield and many more.
Eventually you will hear and want to Google :
The Emergent church
Your close to the truth now. By understanding who Peter Drucker is, will shed much light on the visible church.
I only mention some of this, just in case anyone wonders where much of the confusion comes from. It takes time but there are answers.
To the one who dares to travel this road, those to whom love Jesus but never quite understood Christianity, this will only answer the questions pertaining to those who are seeking. (or you and me)
To best understand those who have read God's Word thru yet teach it (improperly) to accommodate the post modern atmosphere, that can best be accounted for when a believer understands correctly
The law and the Gospel.
Never stop praying & reading Bible as you examine the visible church. You will undoubtedly discover things unsettling concerning many individuals & resources you've come to trust. It's then you'll need to be praying for wisdom as to how to deal with an inevitable
Critical spirit
For a time you might wonder who you can trust. God and His Word is faithful and He will guide you to those who still remain true to His entire Word.
The Bible is still the best commentary of itself or, scripture interprets scripture, not scripture interpreting sermon points.
Both these approaches will have you flipping pages to find truth but both also carry polar opposites on the hearer as to what perspective they will develop.
THE PURPOSE FOR MY STARTING THIS BLOG
Is simple.. I want to
Encourage
The church goer who thinks God's Word is difficult to read. God's Word is troublesome, bothersome, aggravating, critical, judgemental as well as uplifting, encouraging, inspiring, hopeful, joyful but it's not difficult.
God's Word is addictive. You do not need some watered down modern English version to understand it. Churches who use those insult those who hear it.
No other book, text, manuscript, you name it, that you use gets treated in th the Same way as God's Word gets treated. It's sad.
I also, with this blog, want to give a
Word of caution
To anyone whose ever had a preacher deliver a message that God laid on his heart.
This is serious stuff.
The things that occur daily in the visible church, God has something to say about that.
This is clearly seen in Israels history, in those books rarely read.
Some of the strongest language from God speaks directly to it.
Intense judgement along side even more intense mercy will leave the one reading this fearful & hopeful.
If anyone has no clue as to what I just said,, that's the best indication your being Deceived.
I also want to use this blog as a way to share how
God's changed my heart
And that is a big challenge because people will "think" this to be my "experience".
I can think of no other church language that has done as much damage than this kind of subjective talk. Yes, it's frustrating and we have emergent preachers to thank for it.
There's not much I can do to stop anyone from thinking this way ( pointing to their experiences) except to invite them to pray and ask God to rid them of such thinking.
My concern is, however, upon hearing so many different types of experiences , from countless influences , it will be tough for someone to consider what I am saying.
I do not claim to know all the answers. In fact, those who say "Jesus is the answer" more times than not , they themselves don't even know what the question was, that's He's the answer too?
Besides , its not about questions.
Its about what God is telling you and what He is telling you , regarding Jesus is:
"this is my beloved Son , with whom I am well pleased ; listen to Him ."
Its no more complicated than that. You either believe that or you don't.
